In mid-September, 9 KFA teams and 6 individual racers competed together and completed the 2018 Nautica Malibu Triathlon. Every relay team member and individual competitor earned a finisher medal. The Triathlon consists of a half-mile swim parallel to the coast, a beautiful 17-mile bike course through rolling hills along the PCH, and a four-mile run. The event benefits the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles.

Our proud and mighty teams were Team Takillya; Mortal Wombats; Team Tri Tri Again; The OG Filippe’s; FAYke LUNAr Landings; Wu Ford Clan; Tri Me a River; Killer Flamingos; and Team Cooper Cairns Rise. Participants were KFA staff members, spouses, design team consultants, and friends, all racing together and supporting one another. “We show up to support each other,” said Mortal Wombats cyclist Andrea Urmanita, “and it grows beyond the office borders with our consultants, contractors, and family members.”

One of the best parts of the day was the arrival of The Cheer Squad at the crack of dawn. KFAers and friends lined up along the race route throughout the day hoisting KFA signs and team banners, yelling and cheering words of encouragement at the top of their lungs. “It was a good chance for people in the office to do something together and have fun outside the office—and really fun being there at 4:00 a.m. with everyone from the office,” said road runner Rohan Shah, Tri Me A River team member.  “The runners were excited at the end. All of us were there, yelling and screaming. They were tired, but when they saw all of us cheering, they perked up, smiled, and gave us high fives.”

KFA’s dedication and annual participation in the Triathlon exemplifies the firm’s supportive, family-like culture. Often you’ll find KFAers going on weekend hiking trips, taking classes, attending concerts, attending and doing improv and stand-up comedy events (featured in next quarter’s newsletter), and visiting museum exhibitions together.
