Los Angeles, CA Downtown
- Client : Skid Row Housing Trust
- Cost : $16M
- Size : 60,000 SF / 69 units
- Completion Date : 2015
BEYOND THE STATS
- The New Pershing Apartments is a reconstruction of a three-story Single Room Occupancy (SRO) Hotel at the southeast corner of 5th and Main. The adaptive reuse work was a complex process of integrating design, construction management, and planning to bring this building back with a new meaningful purpose, while still paying special attention to the preserving the historic character and charm of the original Pershing Hotel.
- The building’s area was increased from 37,000 to 60,000 SF to provide space for larger apartments, management and resident services offices, a community room, and parking. The apartments are set around a landscaped central courtyard; Communal garden plots cover the lower rooftop and are popular among the formerly homeless tenants.
- The double height spaces along Main Street have been reconditioned for restaurant and retail use and maintain an attractive pedestrian presence.
