BEYOND THE STATS
- Located on the campus of Santa Monica College, the Santa Monica Swim Center is a popular civic destination. Siting, access and environmental impacts of the Center were sensitive community issues, and workshops were held at the beginning of the design process to reach a solution that would satisfy the College, the City and concerned neighbors.
- The public facility includes a competition pool and a recreational pool. A two-story support building features locker rooms, office space, and a meeting/instructional room, with a viewing deck located on the second floor. The design includes a clear polycarbonate block wall at the 16th Street edge of the site, which buffers pool noise from the neighborhood while allowing light to pass through.
