BEYOND THE STATS

• Sun Commons is a 99,000 SF affordable housing community located on N. Clybourn Avenue in North Hollywood.
• The new 103 unit building has 16 studios, 29 one-bedroom, 32 two-bedroom and 26 three-bedroom units.
• Fifty-one apartments are dedicated to the unhoused, with an additional fifty apartments for families and individuals
• The design goal was to create a timeless environment that, through principles of balance, form, space and color, would encourage residents to flourish. This concept was realized by placing powerful, rhythmic building volumes atop a plinth at the first floor. Within, a series of pedestrian openings invite residents to a spacious and peaceful courtyard, full of shade where one can rest. Simple canting of the primary volumes enhances the facade, and contrasting unit patio balconies punctuate the larger building volumes, as pops of color and angles evoke life, play and rhythm.
• Designed to achieve LEED Gold Certification, sustainable features include roof solar panels, high-efficiency Energy Star appliances and lighting, drought tolerant landscaping, low-flow kitchen and bath fixtures, non-toxic paint and flooring, and a rainwater management system
