BEYOND THE STATS

• The buildings of the Lafayette Library and Learning Center embrace the sloped topography of the site, defining a pedestrian street that winds through the full length of the site and features a landscaped amphitheater, intimate reading areas and outdoor cafe seating.
• The Main Library spaces are supported by wood paralam columns and trusses, defining a modern interpretation of the distinctive Bay Area architectural style. High clerestory glazing infuses the interior with natural light, and deep overhangs provide protection from heat gain and glare. The Children’s Library features a large shaded patio, reading nooks, a stepped storytelling corner and fanciful round windows in the shape of the Big Dipper.

The Lafayette Reservoir

• Open from sunrise to sunset, the reservoir delights visitors with fishing for trout and catfish, lounging on pedal boats, walking the 2.7-mile loop trial, or just enjoying a leisurely picnic by the lakeside.
